Is it real, or is it Memorex?

When you read this title there are a couple of things that probably came to mind for you:

1. Just what is Memorex?

2. What does audio tape have to do with leadership?

Yes, this phrase takes many of us back a few years, but there really is an application here, trust me, really.

Leaders are authentic and they are as they say they are, at least most of the time. When you meet or see a leader, you know it.

Leaders initiate change; they make the tough choices, they do the heavy lifting.

Most people don’t want to be a leader because being a leader can be mess work, it can be painful and take time.

Real leaders don’t bask in glory because that is not why the do what they do or sacrifice as they do.

No, real leaders are authentic and they are not an imitation.

Memorex leaders sometimes sound like leaders, they may even look like leaders, but they are not the real thing.

Take a moment and think about the last real leader you met or heard about?

Then think about someone you THOUGHT was a leader and consider these thoughts:

Yes, we live in a world of few original leaders and many Memorex leaders. We see it all of the time.
