Planning for the Future

The late Dwight Eisenhower said that plans are useless, but planning is essential.  I think he was right on target with this statement and it helps set the direction for my post today.  When I look back at my life, both personally and professionally, I find that in most cases I have had the most success when I have taken the time to think about where I am going by reflecting upon where I am and where I have been.  I sometimes get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of the moment that I forget to do this, but this year is providing me one of those epiphany periods where I am taking a very hard look at what I do, who I am and where I am going.  I have to also admit that none of this is possible without constant prayer and an understanding that God is fully in control of my actions and I need to listen to what He say in order to best navigate my course.

One of the items that has come up on my radar screen is the urge to write a second book.  I wrote a short tome about a year ago that ended up being mainly a collection of blog posts I had written over a number of years.  It was self-published on Amazon and I also have a few physical copies on hand.  My next effort will be a more substantial effort, not meaning it will necessarily be a much longer book, but that it will be more directed and purposeful in the approach I take.

So too will my efforts personally and professionally.  While things have gone well in my business over the past 6+ years, there is always room for improvement and 2017 will hopefully go down as the year when I take a much more strategic look at what we do and better position the business to serve in a more focused, effective manner.

Reverting back to my Eisenhower statement, there is no doubt that some of what I plan to do will get changed.  That is just how life goes.  What I need to remember is that the changes can sometimes be the best part of the planning process because they occur through action taken and adjustment being made.
