Sharpening the Saw-Keeping up the momentum
In my last post we talked about how many of us try new new things or try to do things we have done before at the outset of a new year. I am in that boat, sometimes just like Pi, and I wanted to keep you abreast of what is going on here and how it might be of value to you.
In my last post I talked about Lumosity and the way they make learning interesting and fun. I have been to the site a few times now and show improvement, at least they say I do. I plan to go there again today as time allows.
Many of us, myself included, are running so hard that we take little time to care for ourselves. We find ways to do more with less, get things done, burn the candle at both ends and finish strong. 2012 was one of those years for me and I want 2013 to be similar, but better.
Sharpening the Saw is a concept first introduced by Stephen Covey in his book “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. This book is not new, but the concepts are timeless. Let me share them with you:
- Be proactive
- Begin with the end in mind
- Put first things first
- Think win-win
- Seek first to understand, then to be understood
- Sharpen the saw
As I continue to move through 2013 it is my intent to revisit these 7 Habits on a personal level and I will also share with you my experiences and how they might apply to you as well.
My first sharpening activity for 2013 is involving Lumosity. It will not be my last.
Stay tuned as I continue to find ways to be smarter, more efficient and more fulfilled as I also seek to achieve my God-given mission to serve others.
There is much more for me to say, but it will just have to wait.
What are you doing to sharpen your saw in 2013?
