The Back Cover-Persistence makes the Difference!
The Back Cover: July 23, 2020
Welcome to this week’s edition of The Back Cover. We will spend a little time focused on pandemic issues and we will also talk about how persistence makes the difference for many firms. One thing is certain in these times and that is those who are not persistent will not survive. Yesterday’s failure is today’s opportunity.
It has been a summer of compromises, a season of bending the rules. If I wear a mask and I keep my distance, I can go for a walk with a friend. Hand sanitizer is a bulwark that allows my kids to play on an otherwise empty jungle gym. I believe the backyard has magical properties that will, probably, make it just safe enough to see people and talk to them. In the sun and fresh breeze, we give each other air hugs from six-ish feet away.
The clues have been mounting for a while. First, scientists discovered patients who had recovered from infection with Covid-19, but mysteriously didn’t have any antibodies against it. Next it emerged that this might be the case for a significant number of people. Then came the finding that many of those who do develop antibodies seem to lose them again after just a few months.
In short, though antibodies have proved invaluable for tracking the spread of the pandemic, they might not have the leading role in immunity that we once thought. If we are going to acquire long-term protection, it looks increasingly like it might have to come from somewhere else.
Vistage brings together non-competing peers to learn and help one another solve problems they might never solve alone. Let me know if you would like to learn more about becoming more persistent and focused in your leadership efforts by clicking here:
